Maria Hann – When I first joined Fittbirds it became very clear that I was not a runner infact all I could manage was a fast walk that mixed with a little bounce slightly resembled a jog. Luckily for me I met Carol who seemed to share my enthusiasm and became my running buddy. For a few weeks things developed and with Suzy's constant encouragement I began to keep up with the group albeit at the back. I was ill on and off for a few weeks and missed many sessions but started back on a regular basis in March. The regular running, yes running!, began to pay off and Carol and I had some 2:1 sessions with Suzy. Oh how I loved those!! Running up hills in Roundwood Drive again and again and again and again!!! All the time thinking what excuse can I make to drop out as all I could see was Carols bottom as she made a quick getaway up the hill at a very fast pace!! But as some you know I am not one to moan!! To cut a long story short Carol and I have gone from panting and puffing and not really running at all to running a 10k route and only just this week running 7 miles.. I never ever considered myself a runner but I genuinely feel that with the right class and trainer you can achieve anything. With Suzy's encouragement, motivation and way of making you do things without you even realising I have found some self-belief . I now want to do more and run further and I now even go out myself, which was unheard of until recently!! I have made many new friends and the reason that I come to the classes has a lot to do with the people and eventhough Carol, Sarah D I I often moan most of the way we always feel great and the end and we do have a laugh, often at ourselves! I would also add that the whole group have always been encouraging and I have never felt a hindrance to anyone, I find it so wonderful to be in a group that is supportive of everyone. Alicia Kowoskis – 2007 Founder Member Running with Suzy as part of the early Fittlife team has been one of my very happiest memories of living in Welwyn Garden City in the past 10 years. Suzy introduced me to running in the outdoors - previously I had been confined to the gym. When running with Suzy I made personal progress that has not been matched before or since. Suzy was always tremendously encouraging whether running in the woods or approaching the finish line in races. Importantly I felt that even in a group situation, I was treated as an individual as Suzy knew I preferred to either be out in front or at the back away from the group. Suzy is inspirational. Bridget Sharp – Joined June 2007 Running in the pouring rain, getting muddy up to my ankles, eating wild raspberries and really great company made the hour class fly past.I found it a fantastic way to exercise with everyones ability being taken into account Sarah Haliday – Early Member - 2007 First ever session where I discovered that actually, I could run, and I really enjoyed it. Coming back from my first long run with the group in horrendous weather to discover that I was soaked through to my underwear - and not caring! Running through my pregnancy with the fab ladies in the Fitter Friday group. Caronne – Currently out of action Thoughts on running.. I personally love it, I am unsure why....could be the following I guess.. getting fit with like minded birds is great fun, discovering that my legs move at a wicked speed when I see the end is near.....working with suzi "best trainer in the whole wide world "... the feel good factor after you have run hard even when you end up muddy, sweaty and smelly... making great new friends... and plus the perfect bikini butt after all that hard work. Although not so perfect for me as I have been out of action since May. (osteo says frozen shoulder and biceps tendentious) Something is really missing from my life now that I am injured and unable to keep up with the fittbirds...aghhhhhh. Anyway, Suzi I am trying to do a small run each week just so my legs don't forget that they can and could actually once run. As Arnie says " I will be back" . |
