Dear All, First of all, thank you so much to all those who attended the annual Ayot Greenway Time-Trials which were held on two days. Well, what a great evening we all had – perfect conditions, new and regular runners, kids following in the parents footsteps or was it the other way round and some young men too and that includes you Young Henson! And the evening was not without a hint of Fitt Chaos although Sarah did a sterling job of being registration manager, official and timekeeper – thank you. Hope you enjoyed the much deserved light refreshments at the Greenway Pimm’s Bar. A special mention must go to the brave six who competed on the previous Wednesday (Lyn, Sarah D, Zoe, Tess, Paula and Sarah Goodman) They battled against the howling winds, mud and lashing rain in sub zero temperatures and still managed to pull off impressive times. They didn’t even get a Pimm’s, just cold and wet!!! Tess also pulled off the fastest overall 10k time – congratulations. The results need a little imagination as several decided on there own alternative route although on this occasion they will not be disqualified. Julliet set off with the final 5kers but somehow joined the 10k guys and ended up doing double her planned distance and maybe even further! Hope you made it home to Harlow OK. Michelle, as usual, led others astray (Justine, Miranda, Milly & Bonnie) and ran a slightly off-piste. Michelle said ‘I couldn’t find any white flowers to follow so I turned off the main track’. I think she was looking for someone to flash? Young Daniel Sharp followed the footprints but it was unfortunate that they were printed on the back of an unknown runner just out doing his own thing! Improvements will be made to course marking next year!!!! Over to the time keeper extraordinaire….. Spreadsheet Sarah here. Full 2008 Greenway results now updated , see first sheet on attached spreadsheet. Have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed both events, from running in the rain myself last week to the street party atmosphere Thursday evening. As allways please feedback with any "misrecordings"...it could be I had your set off time wrong which can easily be corrected. 5k Highlights First Boy : Henry Porter (AGE 11) in 26:30 also first back at a mighty pace First Girl : Hannah Halliday in 29:13 Fastest Overall : James (Michelle’s Nephew) 23:56 (young fit bloke don't know surname.....needs recruiting I think) Congratulations to other novice 5kers: Tessa Goodman/Bethany Warman/Annie & Buzzy/Milly/Miranda and her dog Bonnie A warm welcome back to Michelle Inder who is building up her tolerance from a knee injury, also special mention must be made to Fallon Williams aged 8 who having fallen over less than half way round managed to keep her mother Lyn from beating her! This is based on the distance being 9.6k/5.8 miles. Then compared results to previous 10k scores, and yes there are still some PB's even using this as a measure. However personally I think we are splitting hairs a little, and I think most enjoyed a good run on a lovely summer's evening. Up to you entirely if you just want to use the raw recorded time. It should also be considered that 8th May times would have been fast anyhow, due to weather whereas 30/04 was chucking it down. Congratulations to you all and in particular Suzy wanted to say Super run by complete novice Sharon’s daughter Laura. And well done Caroline who got persuaded to run the 10k and put in a fine sprint finish. An excellent run by you all. Pictures will be available on website under ‘events’ although there is a bad case of red eye all round. Must have been the Pimm’s! Keep it up guys Regards Suzy & Sarah ![]() |
